West Hills Transitional

The focus for this project was to marry the beautiful traditional architecture and details of the home with the client’s affection for contemporary design. APD combined Calacatta Gold marble for the countertop with White Thassos marble on the backsplash, along with unlacquered brass lights and shelf rail which will only richen with patina over time. The show stopping waterfall countertop combined with the clean lined cabinet style modernize the space. Polished chrome cabinet hardware coordinates with the wine refrigerator and espresso machine, and provides a refreshing mixed metal look and a collected vibe. Existing hardwood floors were refinished with a light white-wash stain, walls were painted a subtle gray, moldings and tongue-and-groove ceiling details were painted a bright white for a light and airy space perfect for family dinners, entertaining, and enjoying the terrace and landscape beyond.

The refreshing palette and contemporary updates from the dining room were continued into the nearby powder bath. The use of mixed marbles was repeated, with classic Carrara for the floors in an easy to maintain large format and White Thassos Marble in a hive shape for the sink wall. The contemporary sink console boasts a robust Carrara Marble top and textural aged iron base. Grasscloth wallpaper adds additional texture to the space. Matte black, polished chrome, and aged iron create a collected mixed metal look.
